in what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
My combination of ancillary tasks and main media production fit together well as they both convey the same connotations. The picture on the movie poster of Hammer and north (shown here) shows Hammer as an insignificant figure compared to North, I got the idea from the film poster from Your eyes only which is a James Bond film (shown here). A low angle shot of North from his feet shows that he has the power. having such a small image of Hammer shows that he is against the odds in overcoming the tasks he has to complete. Which is extremely relevant to the film.
The photo used on the front of my Frame media magazine (shown here) is a picture of a Hammer pointing a gun towards the camera. I modeled it on an issue of Empire magazine which had the movie Public enemies on the cover(shown here). I used this picture as it represents the action genre as it has connotations of death an displays some if the mise en scene used in the film.
On all of the media products I have been purpoesely ambiguous on the release date by putting coming soon (shown here) I got my inspiration for this from The Dark Knights film poster (shown here) this was one of many poster showing a solitary image of the batman, the batman logo or the joker with the coming soon, this creates suspense for the audience about the release date which is a key feature of an action film.

n what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
I conformed to the stereotypes of an action movie to try and fit the criteria of the action genre. The main stereotype in the film, is the portrayal of Hammer. I tried to make him similar to James Bond, Ethan Hunt and Jason Bourne. I tried to make him seem like a strong, athletic and a powerful man who is also very dangerous. I did this by editing and using a variety of camera angles. The shot of Hammer walking towards the camera I edited to make it slow motion, this i a shot used in the film Shooter. This makes Hammer seem powerful and strong. A long shot of Hammer holding the rifle and aiming towards the camera makes Hammer seem dangerous, as if he is pointing the gun towards the audience.
In filmmaking, the 180° rule is a basic guideline that states that two characters (or other elements) in the same scene should always have the same left/right relationship to each other. If the camera passes over the imaginary axis connecting the two subjects, it is called crossing the line. The new shot, from the opposite side, is known as a reverse angle. In the trailer, I purposely broke the rule. During the fight scene when you can see Hammer fighting North at the top of the lift, the rule is broken. This is done on purpose as it shows the confusion and desperation of the fight and that the rule book is out the window for the characters during the fight and for me with media rules respectively.
The mise en scene in my media product is what I believe to be accurate to an action film. In the scene when Hammer is lying down on the grass with what is supposed to be a sniper rife is actually my friends air rifle which is similar to the action film Shooter. With extensive research, I decided that the air rifle had a strong enough resemblance to an actual sniper rifle I could use it in the shot. As well as the rifle, there was an air pistol used for in the trailer, again with research I decided that it was an adequate prop to use and created a shot of Hammer pointing a gun towards the camera at an emotional point in time. This is similar to a scene in Mission Impossible 1.
During my research I decided that their would be a woman figure in my film trailer as there was one in all of my style models such as Die Hard, Shooter, the Bourne films and The Mission Impossible films. But during the filming of the first few scenes I decided to challenge conventional forms of media by excluding the role of feminine figure as I tried to portray Hammer as a rogue and isolated character who has no one to talk to therefore takes his frustration out on the government. I tried to show this by using an extreme long shot in the first couple of scenes in a large field to show how alone he is. The 'sniff' in the shot just after he's looked at the photo shows that he is emotionally unstable. Having no stereotypical feminine figure which is usually related to the hero shows how isolated Hammer is.
My film trailer also conforms to the stereotypical 'checklist' of an action film by having a fast pace tempo to it. I tried to create this fast tempo by having quick short shots which increase the pac of the trailer. The audio track which goes with the trailer adds to the tempo. The song What I've done by linking park is a heavy guitar and drum song with a fast tempo which helps the film seem like it is going at a 100mph. Action films like mine have this to keep the audience on the edge of their seat and the adrenalin pumping. The song was also used in the trailer for Transformers, which is an action film similar to mine, but I believe it is aimed at a younger audience that my film trailer.
The titles used in my film fit the criteria for an action movie trailer as they are short and quick which helps to keep a fast tempo throughout the trailer. The fonts used in the titles are red to represent blood and danger which are key conventions in an action film.

t
For the still photos for my ancillary tasks I have been using my phone. My phone is a HTC desire has a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. it also has a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, with auto-focus and an LED flash. So it can capture great photos, even in low-light conditions. I managed to these onto the Mac that I was using by the USB cable which came with the smartphone. I used my phone not only because it had a high quality camera but because many of my shots that I captured were very opportunistic and that I may have just captured them walking down the street. The ease of having this technology on your person at any time made me chose this device over a digital camera.
The camera I will be using to shoot my scenes is a 'Sanyo Waterproof HD camera'. It shoots in 720p which is high quality. This was my camera of choice due to the availability of the camera. I personally do not own a camera so I was forced to hire a camera out from my schools media department. It was angood enough quality for the tasks that I wanted it to do such as it produced a good shot when there was some glare off the sun towards the beginning of the trailer. With the camera came a tripod which allowed me to produce steady shots, such as the the slow motion shot of Hammer walking.
I used an apple Mac to put all of my visual and audio clips together and for me to do all of my blogging as well. I chose a Mac over a PC due to the more media accessories on offer. It also has Imovie which is unique to Apple products and is professional media software.
Imovie is film making software exclusive to Apple. It allows Apple products and others to upload a audia and visual clips onto and film reel. iMovie is a proprietary video editing software application. I chose this software as it was again of good convenience to me and it is a professional publishing programme used by media companies.
- To display and note down all of my notes and tasks I have used Blogger. Blogger is a blog publishing service that allows private or multi-user blogs with time-stamped entries. I was instructed to use this as I can note down all my thoughts about my media product and then go back and order it into coherent and easy to understand paragraphs, which would be extremely difficult to do by hand.
